• Madonna, Mackie, and Michael: Madonna's Iconic Fashion Exhibit

Last week, to showcase the eclectic inspiration behind her Material Girl line, the Macy's in Century City, Los Angeles, hosted a special one night only event- a retrospective of Madonna's most famous outfits. Only eight outfits were on display and Bob's glamorous dress was a fan favorite! For two hours, fans got a chance to get up close and personal with some of the singer's iconic ensembles, including the incredible white pearl-encrusted Bob Mackie dress she wore to the 1991 Oscars. It was an epic night for Hollywood-- Madonna channeled her inner Marilyn Monroe with the form fitting Mackie, fur stole, sparkling jewels, and wavy blonde locks that were a direct homage to the Golden Age of Cinema and her role as Breathless Mahoney in "Dick Tracy". She also had everyone in a stir when she showed up with her date- who was non other than the king of pop himself, Michael Jackson.

When we asked Bob about the dress and the Queen of Pop, he provided a bit more insight for us:

"Madonna wore this gown first on the cover of Vanity Fair Magazine, then millions of people saw her wear this on the Academy Awards when she performed "Sooner or Later" from the film Dick Tracey and later it was heavily featured in her  "Sex" book. This dress happened to be on Madonna, at the right time and the right place, and the very next day every paper in the country had photos of she and Michael Jackson attending all the post-awards parties.  All-in-all, the gown has had, along with its owner, a lot of exposure."
